As well, come to engage in the conversation about why our traditions are important. 2. Latinos and Mental Health (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by Abraham Ambriz Join in the conversation about the huge issue of mental health among Latino students. Learn how mental health affects our educational trajectories. Discuss how cultural norms, machismo, stigma, level of acculturation, and historical perspectives have impacted access to treatment. Lastly, come to learn about strategies to support others and yourself when it comes to mental health. 3. HU a 501(c)3 Non-profit Organization (2 Sessions) -Facilitated by Jorge Gavino Come to learn how Hermanos Unidos is creating change in our society. Discuss how we are an actor of resistance and learn how to use HU’s non-profit status as a resource for our Hermanos. 4. Balancing Academics & Time Management (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by Miguel Huerta Learn to organize your schedule to manage your life. Learn to balance all aspects of your life (academics, co-curricular involvements, and adult responsibilities). Lastly, come discuss tips on how to distress from your busy life. 5. Finding Jobs and Internships (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by Gabriel Saucedo Learn different tactics to find jobs and internships. This includes understanding the importance of our Social Networking pillar and learning how to use it to find opportunity. 6. School to Prison Pipeline (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by Dr. Brady Heiner Come to discuss the major social phenomenon that is the “school to prison pipeline.” Learn about how this social issue is impacting our community and how it relates to HU. 7. Male Friendships and Hermandad (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by Dr. Alexandro Gradilla Lets talk about Hermandad! What does it mean to be a hermano? Come learn the history of brotherhood and the meaning of a friendship. Also join in the deconstruction of negative machista attitudes and beliefs about male friendships. 8. Graduate School (2 Sessions) –Facilitated by David Velasquez Come to listen to a panel of Alumni and grad students about the benefits of graduate school. Listen to their experiences and engage in the conversation about how to continue your education. 9. Professional Communication (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by Carlos Soria Learn how to appropriately and effectively communicate with colleagues and supervisors. Also learn tactics on how to gain connections and expand your network. Lastly, come to learn and discuss appropriate ways to communicate through technology. 10. Interview Tips (2 Sessions) Come learn effective strategies to nail your interviews. Discuss everything from attire to mannerisms to word usage. 11. Latino Male Academic Empowerment (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by Uriel Serrano Join the conversation about how to make higher education our own. Learn different ways in which we can foster a sense of belonging. Understand how to stay authentic to ourselves, and the identities we bring with us. 12. LGBTQ Hermanos (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by Dr. Vincent Vigil Come discuss the experience of being queer in a heteronormative cisgendered space. Learn about the role our LGBTQ Hermanos play in the space and how to keep the space inclusive. 13. Community Engagement and Empowerment (2 Sessions) - Facilitated By Danny Ledezma Lets learn about why it is important to give back. With community service being one of our pillars, come discuss the importance of staying involved with the folks in your neighborhood and learn how to use the power of our education to positively impact our Latinx communities. 14. Leadership Development (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by Moises Alvarado-Garcia Join in to discuss how to become a successful and competent leader in an organization or workplace. Learn what is your personality and how that impacts your leadership. Lastly, come discuss different ways to continue developing through self-reflection and conversation. 15. Building Your Network (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by Andrew Mairena Learn how to make professional relationships that will benefit you when you are looking for career opportunities. Also come discuss how to maintain your network and use it for professional job projects. 16. Racial and Ethnic Conflict in Society (2 Sessions) – Facilitated by David Flores Discuss the challenges of race/ethnicity in your life as a Latino male in regards to different parts of society. Learn ways to maintain pride in your identity and stay connected with your roots as you move toward your personal and professional goals. 17. Queer Masculinity (1 Session) – Facilitated by Dr. Vincent Harris Learn how men can express their masculinity regardless of their sexuality. Discuss how masculinity comes in different shapes and forms. Also learn how to appreciate different forms of masculinity through having a conversation with your Hermanos. 18. HU Town Hall (1 Session) – Facilitated by Roberth Machado Join in the discussion with our National Board Chairman Roberth Machado. Come to ask questions about HU, learn about board, and make a connection for yourself and familia. 19. Political Efficacy (1 Session) – Facilitated by Dr. Alexandro Gradilla Come to discuss the importance of being involved in politics. Learn different ways to be involved and understand how your voice is important for you and your community.
